CIA, Cuban Highlights – 09/06/1962

The CIA reported to the Special Group that its analysts had confirmed nine SA-2 surface-to-air missile sites under construction in the western half of the island clustered around Havana along with one other possible site in Oriente province on the eastern end of the island not far from Guantanamo Bay. The report included a map. In addition, analysts had detected at least eight PT-type patrol boats known as KOMAR boats (two photos of KOMAR-class boats were included in the report), equipped with short-range surface-to-surface missiles. And the Cuban regime’s state of alert appeared to be relaxing.
